For years, Simon Rouby shadowed CalTrans trucks to document the workers while they chart out Los Angeles with crisp yellow lines.
While filming, Simon became captivated by the abstract expressionist nature of work made by the striping crew.
This summer, a series of canvases will be displayed in the CalTrans Museum along with a multi-channel video and sound installation.
The opening will feature a site-specific outdoor documentary projection of the trucks and striping crew as they trace the cities enormous transportation infrastructure.
"YELLOW LINE" paints a portrait of Los Angeles and its transportation system, highlighting the simultaneously mundane, beautiful, and epic nature of L.A.'s yellow linear labor.
